Agree completely Mr Box. Are You Being Served the movie was a lazily cobbled together debacle of a film relying on much worn out catch phrases and stereotypes…where as Holiday on the Buses is a piece of cinematic magic that never dates. The Stephen Lewis portrayal of Blakey still brings tears to my eyes as he utters the time honoured cry “I hate you Butler!” to a chastised Stan (played of course by the legendary Reg Varney) …with Michael Robbins triumph of hen pecked husband and Ana Karen with her mind blowing Derdrie (was it her arse in the swimming pool or were they stunt buttocks?…we’ll never know…) the cast should have scooped the Oscars…but no…the Americans chose only their own. An absolute travesty! For me the scene right at the start (which for some reason is now mostly cut out when shown on Channel 5) where Stan, distracted by a topless ‘bird’ crashes his bus and subsequently demolishes a phone box is the complete masterclass of method acting at it’s best!
