It’s really hard losing Jim as manager. He was/is approachable and absolutely loves football. His footballing knowledge is second to none and when everything settles down I look forward to seeing what he does with another club. I wasn’t exactly happy at the way Jim went but I don’t know what went on. In the end we look to be doing just fine with Simon Rusk but Jim’s legacy won’t be forgotten and I hope he’ll always be welcome at the club where he spent such a long time rebuilding. Don’t get me wrong I’m enjoying everything that’s going on now (who wouldn’t!)
I’ve attended home and away matches since moving the fish & chip papers off the passenger seat before sitting next to The Captain in his intrepid Ford Escort to embark on a far away midweek game ‘knowing’ we’d get beat before he’d turn the spluttering ignition on. We’ve been managed or run by buffoons on more times than I can remember....it’s not just about County winning though, it’s the camaraderie. Over the last 40+ years I’ve made friends with loads of cool people who would probably regard me as a bit of a knob if I wasn’t for Stockport County.
...from beating Champions League Finalists Man City on their own ground to losing on a cold midweek evening at Brackley, I’ve loved the lot of it. Good luck to Jim Gannon for the future and let’s get behind Mr Rusk.
