Agree about any job, best applicant should get it. Doesn’t always apply in the police force as positive action is often used.
Police were taken to court and lost what was called a landmark ruling.

Where do you start and finish with box ticking to represent the population in a job like the police. Should women have about 50% representation. Travellers, disabled, criminals etc etc.
It’s be best applicant capable of doing the thankless police job that should be appointed.
