As of 1 Aug 2018 1.9 million people (3.3%) were from black ethnic groups, with just under 1 million of those identifying with the Black African ethnic group (1.8%), and 0.6 million with the Black Caribbean ethnic group (1.1%)
According to government data, in March 2019 just over 93% of police officers in England and Wales were white, compared to only 1.2% who were black, and 6.9% who were BME overall. There has been a slight increase over the past decade - in 2009 it was 1% who were black and 3.9% BME - but the police force is still not representative of the general population.
So as well as educating isn’t the answer to eliminating racism within the police and giving the BAME groups in the community more confidence “on the streets” for more black candidates to come forward ?
Simply put IMO there is an urgent need for more black policemen
