I remember seeing The Black & White Minstrel show as a kid. It was mental even then! As for Love Thy Neighbour, because the black bloke always won out in the end...it was somehow deemed acceptable.
You can’t beat a bit of Terry & June though for comedy genius! ...I remember when Terry’s grumpy boss was invited for dinner and Terry (up for promotion incidentally) inadvertently burnt the meal? Hilarious!!! ...then there was the one where Terry’s boss was invited round for food and Terry dropped the gravy boat in the boss’s wife’s lap whilst June rolled her eyes!!! Brilliant! ...not forgetting of course the classic episode when Terry’s boss came round for a Sunday lunch and Terry forgot to buy the lamb! Fantastic!!! ...but the Christmas specials were superbly acted/written. Every year Terry’s boss (not exactly full of Christmas joy!) would arrive for Christmas lunch only to find that Terry had forgotten to purchase a turkey!...again!!!... How we laughed! British comedy at it’s best, original with a serious message! Never got that Basil Fawlty bloke though.
