Meat or veg - a potential disaster?Archived Message

There is debate about chlorinated chicken entering the UK food chain.
This issue is now a political “football” but it seems that chlorinated treated chicken wouldn’t kill you nor is particularly bad for you.
The problem the EU has with chlorinated chicken is that antimicrobial treatments can be used to compensate for poor hygiene along the supply chain, particularly on farms for example.
The EU maintains that chemical washes are a form of quick-fix covering up for lower treatment standards, including lower animal welfare standards.
I appreciate and respect their own personbal choice that many people are becoming vegetarians and veg based meat alternative preferers.
But think of it , no meat, no need for cows and there are roughly 10,000,000 of them in the UK...no pigs and there are 5,000,000 of them and worst of all no chickens, worldwide over 50 billion chickens are now being reared every year.
So think on to the economical disaster by not eating meat?
Personally I don’t eat chicken nor turkey, always find them tasteless, much prefer a very rare rib eye steak with the blood oozing out onto a crouton.
