But of course we are not the worst in Europe if you use a sensible way of measurement rather than the tabloids shock horror figures, if we had a population in the UK of say 500,000000, would you not expect to see more deaths than if we had a population of 5000000. yes of course, it is related to your population, hence Scotlan has had fewer deaths than England, There are various ways of measuring it but certainly without doubt the worst way is just taking the number of deaths overall. If you want possibly the best way then a percentage per capita is a much better way, but still wont give you the correct figure as for example Italy and Spain dont count deaths in the community, and Spain have only recently started counting deaths in care homes, the full figures for which still havent all been submitted, Italy still dont count them, however as el sombrero commented last week there are far fewer care homes in Spain than here (same in Italy) as their cultures have always been that the elderley are more often than not looked after by their sons/daughters etc, hence if they did count the deaths in the community their figures could well go through the roof, look at Belgium who like us count all deaths and have a smallish population, currently the worst in Europe, but they may not be come the end of the day. I say all this and I havent even got as far as population density, ethnic mix, average age of population, normal health of population (obesity etc). This overall figure that the press quote and circulates though messagebords and other social media is basically a throw away figure without knowing all the variables, only really used by people who like to put down the UK, eg, press, social media Peers Morgan etc. Any epidemiologist will tell you that it will be a year or so before you see a truer picture.
