We also have one of the best programmes around, some, at all levels are diabolically bad - our award winning is testament to that.
TTP was clearly the best fanzine ever, although there have been other decent attempts since.
It's probably true in both cases that anything you read in them you a) you already know from the internet or b) could have been shoved on the internet. But there is just something about enjoying print media.
Like HTC also I buy a programme as a way of financially supporting a club.
I don't collect and keep my programmes or fanzines fanatically.
Fanzines it's how interesting I found that edition.
Programmes I like to keep a) first and last home programme of a season - to see what our general hopes/aspirations were versus how the season panned out. b) special interest games - big Cup games, the city games, 9 in a row game etc.. c) at least one programme from every away team/ground I've been to - I do this as a memento in place of having a ticket stub.
Why do I keep any of them? Why do people keep or collect shirts, ticket stubs, badges, framed photos - as a memento, to reminisce, to look back on times good and bad.
I don't the club to go down the Barnet route of an on-line programme only - that just felt impersonal.
From the club's prospective as to why they produce the programme a) it's something many fans want b) it being so good in the field and winning awards helps to spread the club's name positively. And it either a) makes a small loss but they keep it as a loss-leader for the positive reasons listed above b) it breaks even c) it makes some sort of profit. I'm going to guess it mostly makes a profit, occasssionally if we're not doing so well break-even, and in some really really dark and depressing times with people not well-inclined with the club, a small loss. I don't think it could ever have made a big loss, if it had they'd have binned it off.
But yeah programmes and fanzines (And online club and fan-based equivalents such as blogs, vlogs, podcasts, etc..) is something we do really, really well as a club and fan base.
