the EU had hardly covered itself in glory over this though.
The Dutch look like they might be considering leaving again / The Germans are reluctant to bankroll some of the weaker states in a time of crisis, and the whole thing has generally been every country for themselves, rather than the co-ordinated response you'd have expected.
What would be ironic is if the EU comes out of this looking more like the trading bloc the UK always wanted, rather than the deeper political organisation that was the preference of other major nations.
