Many many years ago I did a stint as a shelf filler at the then Spar (Now Coop) on Edgeley. In those days supermarkets operated lots of pile em high displays and we did this with the 2lb bags of sugar. Said bags of sugar used to come in paper outlets of about 12 bags and we tended to build the displays (up to the ceiling) by hand balling the outlets in a line of staff. On one day however the stock had been left outside on delivery and we’d had some rain and the packs were a little wet. Consequently one of the outlets was thrown it split and several packs of sugar went flying across the store, unfortunately said display was built next to the bacon/meat counter and it smashed right through the glass which splintered all over the meats on display.’we were all just youths back then and peed ourselves laughing but for some reason the store manager didn’t find it as funny 😀
