The beer doesn't cost £7 a pint. Phil Robbie is talking about cocktails in a completely different bar (The Good Rebel).
I stop in for a pint or two, but I move from bar to bar anyway. I like to go on a pub crawl in Stockport. Others may stay longer, but it is busy on a weekend.
Underbank is a bit run down, but it's on the way back up. There was nothing a few years ago.
It's not full of charity shops. There are lots of independent shops emerging like SK1 records, fashion stores like Cherry Girl, cafes, cakeries, etc. Winters is being renovated and is going to be transformed into an Italian restaurant.
In a couple of years time, Underbank will be thriving, especially with more residents move into the town centre. The old Bank building and the White Lion is now high end accommodation. The old post office has been converted, etc.
It does need a lot more work and investment, but this area is emerging very quickly. Start up businesses want some where affordable and they are looking at Stockport. There is plenty of potential for restaurants to set up, building the night time economy.
The market place was empty 5 years ago, but look at it now. Underbank will be there soon
