But a general issue we have had in this country in recent years is lots of people being underemployed, rather than being unemployed.
We’ve got a lot of people on zero hours contracts / working 20 hours per week to maximise the amount the government will pay in topping up wages etc.
Those are the people who will now have the ability to take these jobs and the wage will be higher due to the lower competition.
It also incentivises employers to invest in people / proper training.
Whether those things will actually happen remains to be seen of course, but I’m not convinced that the idea of making it equally as hard for someone from Poland to immigrate as someone from India is an inherently racist idea?
