6th November 2010 in a div2 1-1 draw.
County's very own
Orson Cartier considers
interesting things about
Peterborough
As we are playing Peterborough today I thought I’d fill you in about some of the interesting things about the place.
One of Peterborough’s top tourist attractions is the local ‘Lift Lock’ a sort of boat hoist situated on one of the City’s waterways.
Folk come from miles around to marvel at the duel, hydraulic elevating mechanism! Rumoured to be the only working Lock-Lift in the world people stand in awe at the sheer complexity of it’s engineering mechanism!
On the subject of tourist attractions,
one cannot visit Peterborough without spending a few hours in the canoe museum which boasts over 600 canoes that stretch back across the centuries!!
If you find you’re fancy still insufficiently tickled then I urge you buckle up!
Not to be missed are The Warsaw Caves!
Situated on the outskirts of Peterborough there’s just shy of 9 miles of hiking trails through the picturesque countryside!!
As one ecstatic rambler enthused after nearly completing the walk…”That Sir, was a damn good hike”
Forthcoming attractions include;
‘A PhysicHair Demonstration’ in which local character (or weirdo) Ted Leydon can (allegedly) prove that by just holding a strand of
(presumably someone else’s) hair, he can read all sorts of stuff about the past, present and future!
I doubt that but if you’re in the area next week why not pop into the Peterborough Art Gallery for a damn good laugh?
Music is rife in Peterborough and no one is…er…rifer than local legend Washboard Hank!
Washboard entertains as many as 35+ fans whilst playing a variety of peculiar and strange ‘instruments’ including pots & pans, licence plates(!) plumbing supplies(!!) duck calls,
bells of various sizes and of course his trusty Washboard.
Taking to the stage with his longtime musical partner Catfish Willie,
Washboard’s style of play has been described as both ‘manic’ and ‘melancholic’ (sometimes at the same time!)
Their classic set list includes such potential hits as;
‘Stompin Tom for Prime Minister’
‘Trucker Turned to Jesus’
and of course
‘Polly Lit a Tyre fire in my heart’
Fantastic!
There we have it folks…some interesting facts about today’s Opposition
Peterborough Unit….oh!...hang on…it seems there may have been a slight flaw in my research…I’ve just realised that I’ve just given you ‘Interesting Facts about Peterborough’ in Toronto which is of course in Canada, NOT where today’s team are from in Cambridgeshire…one way of looking at it is if you are ever in Toronto…..MY OFFICE, NOW!!! (Ed)
