Players find shinguards restrictive and uncomfortable. Tackling has more or less disappeared from the game, so a whack on the shins happens less now. Its a trade off. When I was playing sunday league 30 years ago, I never went on the pitch without a full Sondico shinguard and ankle protection combo as it gave me confidence. With today’s tikky tacky quick pace stuff, I probably wouldn’t bother.
