He missed more often than not but I do recall a few 'hits'. A player taking a longer throw once got a good clout on the back of his head. He whirled round in surprise but rather than taking any action against Arthur, he just ambled forward to the touchline to take a shorter throw. I also remember a few other connections whenever Arthur got the opportunity. It only tended to happen once in a game as the players got wise to the antics but it didn't deter Arthur who generally followed the ball in order to get into position when he could.
In those days of course, 'violence' was a feature both inside and outside the ground. Like Matty, I remember the suit and my recollection is that he was a larger version of Arthur Askey (which probably means nothing to a lot of people ). There was someone on here who knew him and put more meat on the bones. It may have been SCB but not sure.
The older I get the better I was.
