This is breaking news for me but maybe not for other fans here.
Scott England posted on Youtube 4 days ago a video entitled "Joyce Jackson How She Worked for Jim Reeves". She has just turned 90 and was very coherent with an exceptional memory.
I had seen and heard Joyce in various documentaries, and even purchased her book which was disappointing. "I went with Jim here" or "I went with Jim there", nothing demonstrative as I recall.
However in this post (with a second to follow) she reveals an acetate record of Jim singing "White Christmas" with a slight hoarseness in his voice from a cold, making him sound even better than usual. A record she only has hidden with her treasures.
Maybe this is known, and has been released. If it has I can't recall at this time.
As a bonus, she reveals that an album cover (which I have been collecting in Fridge Magnet form) has Jim's head imposed on another's body after his death.
Can't wait for the second installment. I have new respect for Joyce at 90.
It's rare that we see NEW Jim Reeves material that is actually REAL.
A Good Find and thank you for sharing the story with us.
I was very impressed with Joyce with her very clear spot on recollections, from so many years ago. At 90 she is as sharp as a tack, something we all no doubt would like to gravitate to, if so lucky. I had heard that the album cover of Jim appearing in the tan jacket was super imposed. She actually mentioned the name of the person who wore the jacket.
I have her book which I bought many years ago. I must say, that I agree the book was a tad under whelming. Interesting parts, but no punch lines as it were. But as I recall the price was right.
I remember Joyce posting story lines of her experience working with Jim, here on the Forum. She has not posted in years which I still miss. I believe at that time she was a cashier at a Walmart and had many chance encounters with customers who actually knew who she was. Can you imagine !
