These are not two of Jim's best known songs, but sometimes it's these songs that are hidden gems. Of course, this could be said for many of Jim's album tracks that were not nessasarily hit singles. Two that really stand out, in my opinion, are "Where Do I Go To Throw A Picture Away" and "Somewhere Along The Line" Beautiful well written numbers that Jim sings so effortlessly. The higher notes that Jim sings in the last verse of "Somewhere Along The Line" is amazing.Wonder if anyone else feels the same way about these songs or if they have their own hidden gems that are favorites...
Yes, I remember that post. I would most likely put that song first too, Bob, but with Jim, almost any song of his that I'm listening to at the moment is my favorite. That's how great his body of work is...
The two songs you mentioned Mike are spot on. These songs never garnered the accolades they so richly deserved. The pure magic Jim was able to sprinkle on every one of his recordings is simply mesmerizing. Dictionary describes this word as "Something that is SO captivating and fascinating it holds your attention completely". From Jim's perfect timing on holding a note, to his ability in achieving just the right expression thru slight pitch change..well, what can anyone say...Simply perfection.
Thank you Mike for bringing up this interesting subject. I hope we will get some of the folks here on the Forum thinking of their choice of a song they love but never quite became a smash hit, but should have.
In my opinion, two songs(and countless others)that come to mind that fit this category are "When You Are Gone" and "Wild Rose". For me these represents the epitome of a great and timeless song. Suffice to say just because any of these songs were not number one on the charts, they will always be number on for me.
Roy and Bob- Excellent song choices! But how can you go wrong with Jim? Another one I like is "I Was Just Walking Out The Door". Just love the lyrics to this one, and Jim's interpretation of these lyrics could never be bettered. I could name many more obscure tracks that are gems, but I would run out of room here!...
