Most wonderful time of the year!...

My fellow Jim Reeves fans- Just wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year! Wish Jim had been able to record more Christmas music, but at least we have his "Twelve Songs of Christmas" album to enjoy every year, and a few Christmas rarities that Larry gave us on Voicemasters. Forever grateful to him for that. Wishing everyone a joyful holiday season!...

I couldn't agree more. The entire album is a work of art with a number of masterpieces. I tell everyone I know that Jim Reeves "Silent Night", is the best version on the planet bar none!

It sure is, Robert. Another favorite of mine is "The Merry Christmas Polka" because it's such a happy song. Just perfect for the holidays. But,of course, it's hard to pick just one favorite because every song is great! My two favorite Christmas albums are Jim's and "Elvis' Christmas Album" from 1957. They have always been my two favorite singers...

I have often thought of several Christmas tunes I wish Jim would have recorded. Tunes that were around when Jim was alive are still my favorites. I'm sure we could all make a list. Merry Christmas to everyone.

I'm almost 73 years old. I know now that I won't die young. :) Thanks to Jesus Christ, I know I'll be going to Heaven when my time comes. I hope all of you can say the same. One of my hopes is that Jim will be there. I'd love to hear him sing in person in the ages to come.

The newly remastered version of the CD that came out a few years ago, "Jim Reeves The New Christmas Recordings" now contains a unique bonus track: a version of Jim singing "Silent Night" a cappella, with only the Anita Kerr singers accompanying him. No musicians. This lets you hear Jim's magnificent voice with greater clarity. He sounds fantastic. I always look forward to this time of year so I can play "Twelve Songs Of Christmas", as much as I want, my favorite of all the Christmas offerings. I will also say, I play it occasionally throughout the year since it is much too good to be enjoyed but once a year.

To pick a few of the best is difficult for sure. They are all done so very well. But if I had to choose just one, it would have to be "An Old Christmas Card"...Jim's recitation (with perfect diction of course) is simply the best, and probably will never see anyone come close to how Jim recorded this to perfection so many years ago.

I wish everyone here a Merry Christmas. All the best in health and happiness !!

Tempted to say that's my favorite too, Roy, but like you say, hard to pick just one. I like "Senior Santa Clause" too. The beat reminds me a lot of Elvis' song "Treat Me Nice". Very similar...

Again I couldn't agree more with all the posts in this stream and favorite songs from the album. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I'm 73 as well and discovered Jim about the same time as others who post here. Junior High School and Kennedy Assassination 1963 ish.

As far as other Holiday Albums go, Jim's 12 Songs of Christmas, Statler Brothers Christmas Present, and Sing Along with Mitch Miller are pretty comprehensive.

Statler Brothers Christmas Present is available on DVD and CD. The DVD was not the original TV presentation, which was different and better, but long gone, and is still well done. Good place to hear "Old Toy Trains" by Roger Miller.

Wishing well for all JR fans. His music is needed now more than ever in these trying times.

I guess it's my age (76) because I wanted to mention my second choice song in my last post, but forgot.

Song #8 "C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S" (I believe co-written by Eddie Arnold) is simply for me the best version ever recorded thanks to Jim's understanding of how this song should be interpreted. In particular how he phrases and with perfect timing while holding the last two words "Christmas Day" is simply perfection. Gets me every time...just as if the earth stopped rotating until the words are complete.

I can only hope others have the same feeling and opinion as I have found in this wonderful song.. Thank you Jim !!

PS.. Thank you Robert for mentioning the Roger Miller song "Old Toy Trains". Rogers version is simply a treasure for us, with its innocence and clever family values, something we are sadly missing of late...

Yes, Roy, Jim sings this song to perfection and I have always loved how well he sings those last few words in a higher key. Who could sing this better than Jim? The answer is nobody!...

About 14 years ago I was working as a courier bringing medical specimens to the lab for testing. It was a dark, cold, snowy, wintery night in the holiday season. I heard a song on the radio I had not heard before. It was Eddy Arnold singing "One Christmas Eve Long Ago". I mention it hear in case anyone wants to look it up for their listening pleasure or curiousity. I think it's a pretty good song.

This comment is a little off topic but when one mentions "Perfect Diction" I have to say there is no other artist I know who can say, speak, or sing words like "talk" "walk" and more, where you can hear the "L". "Talking to Your Heart" is an example of another "Masterpiece" of perfect diction.
Lastly, there are the sounds of emotion only Reeves has the ability to reproduce. I have been lately enthralled with the song "Where Do I Go To Throw a Picture Away". Another "Work of Art" where pain and heartbreak can be heard in Jim's voice.
A true "Gift".

You're so right, Robert, and Jim's perfect diction makes his Christmas songs sound more beautiful than most. It's a shame Jim only got to record one album of Christmas songs during his lifetime...
