Between 1956 and 1965, Elvis had 23 LP's released in the US. Jim had 22 if you include the RCA Camden budget LP's. RCA didn't start releasing Elvis albums on Camden until 1969, and they eventually released more on Elvis than they did on Jim. As for Jim's LP sales by 1965, I suppose it's possible he could have reached 80 million, especially with so many albums in the top 20 at the same time in Europe. I would imagine that a figure like 80 million albums would represent worldwide sales for Jim back in 1965, but Steve wasn't clear about this...
