Part of what made Jim appeal to me was the songs that he chose to sing. He was contemporary with song writers like Cindy Walker, Bill Anderson, Roger Miller, Leon Payne, and others who provided much of his material. Jim too wrote several of my favorite songs of his. And all those people wrote at a particular time and out of a particular worldview that would have been much different had they all been born forty years earlier, or forty years later.
I also believe that the musicians that worked with him, having Chet Atkins as his producer, and the Anita Kerr Singers as his backup group all were significant parts of his success.
So, it was the era, and the place, and the people that contributed to making Jim Reeves what he became. But none of it would have mattered but for Jim's vocal gifts, which came directly from God.
