An interesting theory. It is possible of course that Whittemore saw the same author picture or was a fan of Clive Cussler. Whittemore sourced his characters from all over the place. Strongbow closely ressembles Richard Burton the explorer and adventurer and Cussler is an adventurer as well as writer I gather
