There is no doubt that its more difficult to solve a problem today than it was when systems were more simple, its become much more sophisticated. However I've found that the "help" built into newer systems is either self explanatory or offers a tool to do much of the searching for a solution itself. On the rare occasions when I've had to resort to more personal help, it's usually been an equipment failure of some sort. On those occasions when I've let an online technician take over my machine, I watch every move and learn that something I might have been afraid to investigate won't blow up if I click on it not knowing what it is. The next time I have a similar problem, I'm not afraid to try to solve it myself. The worst that can happen is I'll have to seek professional help anyway. These geeks usually have a set procedure they follow when looking for causes.
