    Wayne Fruchey

With a sad and troubled heart, I want to report the passing of the Ambassador of Grouse Trials and the Gladwin Field Trial Area in Michigan: Wayne Fruchey. Wayne’s smile and handshake greeted me in the fall of 1966 and greeted hundreds of bird dog enthusiasts before and since. Without a doubt, his name and that of Ghost Train, winner of the Grand National Grouse Championship in 1969 is known to many. I can’t even try to number the wins he accumulated over the years before turning over the handling duties to his son, Tom.
I am proud to say he was a friend, mentor, and my fishing partner for the last few years. Good shooting friend. And let me know if you need the net.
    Requiescat in pace.

Certainly Wayne is the Patron Saint of Gladwin, and the Cardinal of Cover Dog Trials. He taught me so much by example and the way he carried himself and related to all others from my first days in field trials back in the mid-eighties. Wayne was smiling EVERY TIME I SAW HIM. He was so knowledgeable, welcoming, and friendly to veterans and newcomers alike. For a man of such stature to be so humble continued to impress me to the present day. What an example for us to emulate!
The field trial community mourns the loss of a Truly Great Man. Wayne leaves the legacy of a Genuine Champion.
God Bless You Wayne, and Rest in Peace.
Love and Condolences to the Fruchey Family.

I got to meet and talk with Wayne a few times because of his connection with my grandfather (Jack Secor). He actually was the one that told me of the trial in Jack's name.
That connection helped me to learn of the legacy Wayne has established in so many handlers.
Best thoughts and condolences to the Fruchey family. God speed Wayne.

Well said Tom. To say I have a heavy heart, as you can imagine would be an understatement. Lost one of the best..

        God Speed my brother..
