Have you checked with any of the English Setter specific breed rescue organizations? They have dogs of all ages that have been vetted and foster evaluated. Not every dog that needs a home had a bad start as a neglected or abused animal. These dogs often end up in these places because of an owner’s death with no family member willing to rehome the deceased person’s animal. OESR (Our English Setter Rescue) and SOS (Save Our Setters) are just two reputable groups I can think of. They can also arrange transportation to get the dog to you if you’re unable to pick it up.
