Various media have speculated and some of the reasons mentioned were:

* Wanting to give his children a British education
* Missing his home
* ICE was about to deport him because of contradictory statements in his Visa application and his autobiography
* Financially things are not going so well, living in the UK might be cheaper
* the window of opportunity to reconcile with his father is closing
* Fear of loosing his style and titles
* By moving the children to the UK he has a better shot at getting full daily custody if he and Meghan were to divorce (the legal custody of minor royals lies with the monarch. Meghan cannot take the children out of the country without the permission of Charles III).
* trying to force the half in half out option of being a Royal once again.
* Diana's death will be 30 years ago next august. It seems Harry is interested in making a documentary about her (read my personal opinion: like his uncle Lord Spencer he's decided to make money out of his link to her).

Probably a mix of several of them. There are also the rumors surrounding the birthmother of the children. By their own mismanagement surrounding the births of both children rumors have arisen that Meghan may not be the birthmother of the children and that they were born through a surrogate. Surrogacy would automatically exclude the children from the line of succession under the current rules and neither would they be noble so no lord or lady style either. It would make them mister Archie and miss Lily Mountbatten-Windsor. I guess it would be smart if they got used to using that family name as I expect that will be the one they'll have to use as grown ups.

All together Harry and Meghan have managed to mess things up Royally and are trying to find some path forward and they know they can only make real money of his Royal background.


It's clear from all the statements the Prince of Wales has made that once he succeeds Harry and his children will loose their Royal status. William and Catherine will have a much smaller Royal Family. Outside their own children there will be the Princess Royal, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and like the Princess Royal until the Wales-children are adults the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. For actual family events Anne's children and grandchildren as well as the Edinburgh children will be included. The jury is still out on Beatrice and Eugenie but I very much doubt they will keep their style of HRH and princess-title. Im guessing that title with be reserved for children of the main line.

At present it doesn't look like William and Catherine would be interested in improving relations with Harry and Meghan. I even doubt if they would be invited to the coronation of the next King and Queen.
