There was a tremendous number of commemorative events back then.
"In the afternoon [of the day after the coronation] she and the Duke of Edinburgh made the first of the four Coronation Drives through London visiting the north-east districts."
"After a quiet week-end at Royal Lodge, Windsor, the Queen began another busy week of official duties. On 8th June she and the Duke of Edinburgh made a Coronation Drive through south-east London, touring the south-west districts the following day."
On the evening of the 8th there was a grand gala performance of the new Coronation Opera, Gloriana ,by Benjamin Britten, at Covent Garden, for which the Royal Opera House was richly decorated and massed with flowers. Twenty-nine guests arrived from Buckingham Palace. The Queen wore white and gold. The Duke of Edinburgh was wearing Court Dress; the first time this had been worn in public since 1939.
I wonder what the Duke looked like. Perhaps it was Windsor uniform?
