He does not need to keep it for Camilla, she has her own house she has kept all those years and uses it to gather her family around her.
I hope Highgrove House will remain with the main line of the Royal Family. It's a beautiful house and has great gardens. it also seems more manageable than some of the larger estates. Still there are a lot of residences and that might at some moment become an issue.
With Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, st James' Palace and Kensington Palace all in London, Windsor Castle, Adelaide Cottage, Royal Lodge, Bagshot Park, Highgrove House, Sandringham and Amner Hall all in England and Holyrood Palace, Balmoral, Birkhall and the Castle of Mer in Scotland there is a long list of residences and not that many active Royals.
Charles had Highgrove as his main private residence, since his mother still owned Sandringham and Balmoral. It's been less than a year since the accession, so I'm sure we'll see a real estate shuffle at some point in the next year.
As I understand it the idea was to open as many of these properties to the public (or rent them out) as possible because they are hardly used except for a few weeks a year. How many country retreats does one need?
Thank you, Cynthia. A most logical solution.
