Re: New precedent for Prince of Wales title?
Karen...I plan to come to EDI on Mon...see post below...
I'm just wondering if the new king has set a fresh new precedent by conferring the title of Prince of Wales on his heir almost immediately after his accession to the throne (previously there was always a time lag especially in his own case). Will future monarchs now follow suit or revert to the former tradition?
The Duke of Windsor was created Prince of Wales a month after the accession of his father George V in 1910.
As Steven says The King was a 3 year old when his mother came to the throne. Creating him Prince of Wales in 1958 when he was 9 years old seems sensible to me.
There is no real precedent in creating the male heir Prince of Wales. It's really the decision of the Monarch. I mean Edward VII was created Prince of Wales when he was one month old on 8 December 1841.
