Re: AEW Double or Nothing PPV
I watched and thought it was as about as good of show as they could've done. It's been a long time that I've enjoyed an American PPV as much as this one. The $50 price point did make it hard to pull the trigger and order it because we've become used to paying a lot less these days and I definitely wouldn't pay that on a monthly basis. It will be interesting to see what kind of plan they have with PPV going forward. Like you, I'm sure they didn't get a lot of buys but it trended #1 all night on twitter till the end of the NBA game then stayed # 2 so a decent amount of buzz. I wish they already had TV so they could follow up on a great show. To me, the match of the night was Cody vs. Dustin. Just a great professional wrestling match! It had it all. Drama, passion, a good story with personal issues and juice. What a gusher by Dustin! Definitely near the top of the Muta scale. Glad to see AEW not afraid to get color. It's not something that should be used like Starrcade 85 but I still believe it has it's place occasionally. Back to the match. You could kind of see the restrictions WWE puts on their talent by the kind of matched worked by a 50 year old Dustin Rhodes. I can't recall a match this good by him in years and quite possibly and arguably Cody's best. Was it perfect? No. But those who call this a spot monkey fed, and they will be right at times, can't say that's what it's all about. I'm in agreement that Marvez was terrible. But as bad as he was, I thought Excalibur was fantastic. I need to listen to more of him to pass judgement though. Jim Ross has caught a lot of flak lately as well but he seemed motivated and was quite good last night as well. Not perfect but I felt we heard some shades of the old J.R. at times. Overall, this has me fired up as I've been in awhile over a promotion and pro wrestling in general. I think this was a great start. Not being able to follow up on TV hurts but it's coming. With WWE's stale product and indifference to their fans, AEW is ripe to succeed if anyone can. The big question is if there is a market for another national promotion in 2019? I sure hope so.
