Beginner flute pedagogy

I will be teaching beginner flutes for the first time this year. Flutes is completely foreign to me and up until now I was blessed with great help. Can anyone share/recommend any resources that I can use. I want to prepare as much as possible.

Second to have a mirror on their stand every day. Not looking down, the stand needs to be all the way up to the level of their chin. Head should be in a natural straight position. Headjoint comes to you, not you to HJ. Agree with whoever said you need to practice on HJ all summer. You will have to place the HJ for them for the first few weeks? To form the embouchure, have them pretend they're spitting a grain of rice, or blowing on hot soup. Have they been tested already? If they have a tear drop upper lip or weak facial muscles it will make it very difficult for them to form the embouchure.

When I started teaching flute, I went into the Musical Mastery WW book and read every. Single. Part. Of the flute section. I’m a clarinetist who was anxious and desperately didn’t want to mess up my flutes. There’s SO much info in the teacher section, it’s a little overwhelming, but a lot of it is VERY good information. Please make sure your students have access to mirrors in your class and spend about 4536729472 minutes making sure their embouchures are correct before going to the full flute. Okay, that’s an exaggeration but, honestly spend much more time on head joint than you think. Even in the spring, we’re doing head joint work, but working on vibrato etc.

I was expecting to see some answers here. My suggestion is to go take flute lessons from someone - university, local flutist, etc. The quickest way to figure out a 6th grader's problem, is to try and overcome it yourself. Hint #1: please don't do the "roll the head joint in and out" method to find the location of the hole.

Yes,yes,yes,yes, yes! do not roll the head joint hole from the middle of the lips unless you want to pull the head joint out an inch and a half to "tune"This is the original sin for the "Tell me you don't know anything about teaching flute without telling me"

Practice on a headjoint every day this Summer.This will give you some really helpful insight!

Make sure that you do not have a cupid's bow!!
