Unique opportunity

Got a call from my principal this morning asking us to perform our half time show at next weeks pep rally. The coach wants to have the pep rally at the field next week (for other reasons). With admin and coaches talking about it, it was suggested that since the band has contest that weekend we get the opportunity to perform it for the student population during pep rally at the field.

I feel honored that they recognize our band has improved and is competitive in what we do.

I also think of it as another chance for the pressure to be on the kids to perform at their best before we go to contest.

How would you guys feel?

Wow! This will really be a great deal! Your kids will feel way more pressure performing in front of the student body, which may make UIL feel not as stressful for them. They'll really step it up in front of the student body and this will give you the advantage of saying, "Okay folks, this is the type of energy that you need maintain for UIL, tomorrow."

I would definitely take advantage of the opportunity. The way I see it is that your admin and coaches are actually thinking about things that can benefit your program. Congratulations!

No reason not to do it!

It's a perfect opportunity: getting another show run on the field and with your town's crowd watching. They'll get to better see what you're doing, your kids will get nerves out of the way, and the staff seems to be in your corner.

That's a very lucky situation!

Our first trip to SMBC was a patriotic show that we ended up performing at the Veteran's Ceremony our district hosts. Never a bad thing to get another run, and even better sometimes to let other students see what your kids are doing!

I would absolutely do this. Last year we were asked to have our Winter Guard perform at a pep rally. I was skeptical that the student body would be into it, but they enjoyed the show, and we recruited some new members from that. Let your kids perform for their friends and get another run of the show before a contest.
