Budget survey

This is my first year at a new program in a large 4A district. We are projected to be hitting the 5A number within the next 5 years. This currently the smallest budget I have every worked with almost half of my budget at a previous 4A. My junior high budget 26 years ago was bigger than my current HS budget. My current admin does not understand the needs of a 4A program and has no clue of the needs of a 5A. As my school approaches 5A, I am trying to make them understand how much the program has been underfunded over the last 6 years.

Music: $3500, Guard Choreo: $1500 (I write drill)
63 this year
Repair is $14k
Capital outlay isn’t an item in our budget
Supplies for marching band is $15k if I remember correctly. We have another $12k for regular music and supplies.

I was in this situation 10 years ago at my previous school. I made a proposal using every school we played in football, every school at our region marching contest (in 4A only), and then the honor band and state marchong contest top 3.

It was a lot of phone calls and e-mails, but it really resonates with admin to see familiar schools.

Can anyone recommend a resource (clinic handout or video) about budgeting specifically for Texas bands? I would like experience but have not been able to secure an opportunity.

School size: 3A

Average marching show cost: $1,000 for the music. (I write the drill)

Number of students in program: 40 in HS / 150 overall

My budget is $60k, which covers all expenses. Full disclosure...that is supposed to cover 5th-12th grade band including capital outlay, supplies, repair, travel, contracted services, meal per diem, ATSSB and TMEA dues and entry fees, printing costs if necessary, uniforms, and more.

My booster organization is outstanding and provides around an additional $30k per year in funding. We also occasionally have special funding available that allows for a large purchase here and there.
