...if you refuse to play one...you will have to refuse to play all pieces that were written by every scumbag out there. Wagner--a very public anti-semite and Hitler's favorite composer--no longer OK to play just to name one.

Hitler persecuted Catholics, as he believed they took orders from the Pope, and were not loyal to him [Hitler]. So you would call that "support"? And you fine with Wagner's racial views? OK, got it.

Fine is not the one moving the goalposts here. You are the one trying to have things both ways with your response. The example provided was Wagner...there are plenty of others out there that I'm willing to bet my meager paycheck that you have no problem having in the kid's folder, stand tunes or otherwise. You need to go through and pull ALL of those other pieces if you are going to pull one. Otherwise you are guilty of a double standard. Play them all, or don't play any of them, you don't get to have it both ways.

So, again, because other people who are already dead and can't benefit from their works did wrong, you're excusing Gary Glitter, who is still alive and serving time in prison?

And - news flash - we ARE removing "questionable" composers from the libraries and from performance. Heard any minstrel songs lately performed by your choirs?

I pray that you learn what a "false equivalency" is before you high-horse yourself out of a job. You would have already lost any respect many of us had for you, if you had been bold enough to attach a real name to your post.

You're capable of going down the hall and talking to your choir director, or talking to your choral director friends online, for one.

You can also look at what's been pulled off the vocal PML in the past ten years or so, for two.

You can also look at the ongoing protest around Texas Fight, for another.

For a fourth option, look at TCDA or ACDA discussions about this very topic, and how it's been addressed in the choral world.

You've been provided with the opportunity to educate yourself, if this is a strawman you wish to continue to prop up. There are plenty of "questionable" composers and songs that are being removed - but refusing to do good in one instance because you can't do good in every single instance isn't moral, it's justifying evil.

The consistent false equivalency is akin to refusing to stop an assault on a student because you can't stop every assault on every student. Is that just or moral? Obviously not.

Change what you can change. Stop giving Gary Glitter money. If you feel it necessary to go beyond that, and remove dozens of other "questionable" (or actually questionable) composers, then do so - but don't say one has to change everything and fix everything in order to fix one thing.

And that makes Wagner's views/actions any LESS disgusting? That's like saying someone who was arrested for doing 85 in a school zone isn't so bad because "Well, he wasn't doing 100". His views weren't limited to the adults BTW.

Gary Glitter is alive and still making money off his music.

There's a false equivalency here, and there's also a point of view that doesn't defend child rape or equivocate it.

Finally - aside from Elsa's Procession, which only the very finest bands have any business performing, when was the last time you heard a concert band play Wagner - at all?
