For those of you who require practicing outside of class, how do you enforce it? I am requiring daily practice for 20 minutes, for a grade, and am getting met with pushback "I have games, I have Ag, I have underwater basketweaving" type of excuses out of kids. There are plenty of programs in Texas that require daily practice, I am starting a new program, so they aren't used to this yet, but how do you enforce this? Yes, it's for a grade, but what do you do about the pushback? I am wanting to give them 0's and their grades can tank. In my eyes, they CAN practice daily, they need to prioritize it, and 20 minutes is not a big deal at all. I have kids saying that I have said that band is more important than church *eye roll* when what I really mean is that they can find 20 minutes on the night they have church, or that morning instead of the evening.
