Practice logs signed by the parents. This is for 6th grade and we have a playing test each week. I only require 20 min/week. They'll practice more if they're going to practice.
Yes, some parents will lie for their kids, but those kids wouldnt have practiced anyway.
The practice log is 20% of their playing test grade. Enforced with no opportunity to turn it in late. It teaches responsibility and if you're consistent, you'll get good results.
King Size candy bars for the top 3 highest scores. Highest score gets to pick theirs first.
Everyone who does well (an A) gets a dumdum. No log, no dumdum.
