We have apprentices. Typically after summer band has started the end of July. We say it's a way for underclassmen to take on responsibility to see if leadership is something that want to be a part of. It's also for upperclassmen that either like to help out or just want more responsibility. They do jobs like set up DM podiums, push the water cart outside, bring the speaker cart outside, help set up the speakers, bring the medical cart out, etc... It also allows your leadership team to "supervise"
