We have a small HS band (~13 members) that we’re thinking of taking down to South Padre for our annual spring trip in late April 2027. I’ve gotten a few quotes from dedicated band travel companies, but they all seem pretty steep cost-wise. Right now, we’re looking at quotes around $1,500-$1,700 per student.

My question for you all: if you’ve taken a South Padre trip with your group in the past, what does a “good” price per student look like, especially for a group this small? Also, what are your recommendations for trip vendors, things to do, places to perform, hotels/condos to stay in, etc.? What did you and your students like, and what should we avoid?

Finally, is it more worth our time to just plan the trip ourselves? If anyone has gone that route, let me know if it was worth the hassle.
