My mentor used to have a saying..."You don't want to be the guy that follows the guy, you want to be the guy that follows the guy that followed the guy"

In this day and age, 10 years is a long time (I'm in year 10 in my district, I did 12 in the district before). It sound like you're in a lose/lose situation, and I would start looking. I've seen good directors come out of bad situations and immediately flourish in a new opportunity.

And, please, don't take all of that stuff from the community personal. They would have done all of the same to ANYONE who took that job. Sometimes, it's not worth the fight for you or the kids.
