That being said, I can see the argument over our calendars shifting. Currently, we have a traditional calendar based solely on the agrarian reasons of the past. Most countries around the world follow that 'balanced' calendar far more often, or go later into the summer before beginning their shorter summer term breaks. It probably does have benefits on learning loss that comes from the summer months.
That being said, with the way UIL sets contests for sports and us, it would penalize all of us for having a 'break' because we'd still be working. Most schools in this situation definitely penalize involved kids. At least UIL has agreed to the extra hour of practice for each day not in session at that June meeting.
