Go to an audiologist. Get a hearing test done. This will give you a baseline of where you are. Have them make models of your ears and get musician earplugs made. Mine take an even 25 db off of the current environment and doesn't change the sound much. They are pricey, but it's a great tool to have. I use mine in all sorts of noisy environments.
The cheaper ones will protect your hearing, but the experience and quality of sound is very compromised. But, way better than nothing.
