Right now the high school I am at has 2 full time "wind" directors and 1 percussion director that floats between multiple middle school campuses and is unable to serve as a third "band" director.
At the moment there are 190 winds in the program. The head director teaches the top band only and takes care of all administrative duties for the program.
I teach the third band (70 kids) and second band (65 kids). All of our classes are 1.5 hrs long every day, which is awesome, but leaves me exhausted well before I am done teaching my second band class of the day.
I think having an additional director would alleviate this and allow me more time to dedicate to individual students and also allow me more time/energy to go down to the middle school campuses...but ultimately I don't know that this is enough reason to advocate to the higher powers the need for another band director.
I love my job and the program...we have a ton of awesome and hard working kids, I just find myself stretched thin at times and not able to be the best teacher for them.
Any advice would be helpful
