From the commericial lobster fishermen I have heard there were a lot of lobster this year. Divers seemed to do well too. Its like the fluke regulations, unless you can afford to do your own research we have to live with the NMFS's faulty research.
The other factor in my opinion is the Area 1 (Maine area) where it seems most of the lobster come from would really like to shut us down completely. This is pure greed on their part but they seem to control the regulations.
From what I have heard at meetings etc the sport diving community take less than 1% of the total catch. If you figure it out pound for pound we have also given up the most. Larger min size, max size females then max size males, 6 lobster limit, etc.
Jack fullmer is the sport diving representative for NJ and has been doing a lot of work on our behalf. I don't think we can thank him enough. Without his hard work we would not be able to take any lobster at all.
