Pss as lm fertilizer. Posted by Fred SC on February 12, 2026, 9:17 pm I bought some palm fertilizer at Lowe’s to use on some Trachycarpus fortunei in the back. I fertilized already. I hope next rss as in gets it into the ground, this clump b of palm had been yellowing for a few years. No other clumps are yellowing.

" Soon I will pull back the mulch as far out as the drip line and scatter some fertilizer and lightly add a thin topping of manure and soil. Since its covered a little, its about like digging it in. Hope they respond well. Its still a little chilly here in the northern piedmont but Im ready.

I am still a couple months away, from 50 degree soil temps, and maybe even removing protection from palms. I notice that you have daffodils blooming. I am also a few months away from those blooming, here. I'm assuming that you, or your neighbors don't have any of "the earlier than daffodil" bloomers growing, like snowdrops, crocus, etc., or that they bloomed before the recent snow and cold blasts, that affected most of the eastern half of the lower 48 states. Cold has been around here, since December, and just now beginning to break. Nevertheless, despite not having a winter, as cold as this one, over the last 7 or 8 years, I do have a few things blooming, or otherwise "showing winter color", here, even though the Dutch bulb season hasn't begun yet. One of my Clivia plants is blooming. Sometimes, I'll get a second blooming from this one, in summer. Fudingzhu tea olive blooms nearly year'round. The fragrance from just a few tiny blooms will perfume a relatively large area. Believe it or not, I received this Amaryllis bulb, back in November, but it did not begin blooming until January. A second bloom stalk is still blooming. The Flamingo Flower, Anthurium andraenum, flowers year'round. I have ripening tropical FRUIT, too, from my Tamarillo, Cyphomandra betacea, true 'Eureka' Lemon, Citrus limon, and sweet 'Meiwa' Kumquats. Lots of different kinds of daffodils l beginning to bloom here. Spring is just around the corner. Your collection of tropical fruit plants is amazing.. Are the yellow fruits your Kumquats? What is the green fruit similar to lime? Your. Clivia begin to bloom . Again, like I’ve told you before., by Clivia still is not blooming ! . It’s very healthy looking, but it doesn’t bloom anymore. Do you think some of that palm fertilizer might have some of the extra minerals that it might need to make it bloom? If so, I might fertilize with that.? I bet the tea olive is perfuming up your place, for sure. They are predicting some rain and maybe some thunderstorms today. I sure hope so, because we are in a severe drought! iIf we don’t get some rain soon, it’s gonna be bad news this summer. Al, I haven’t really noticed if any other early balls blooming . I have not been able to get out and walk and get around to see because I’ve been taking care of Dorothy. She fell down five steps on the concrete and she fell pretty good and has been unable to walk for a little while, but she’s starting to walk with a walker now and is well enough for me leave the house long enough to go to the store Because I’m afraid she’ll fall again. Her equilibrium seems to be off a lot. I’m hoping she’ll be getting a lot better soon so I can get outside and do some things. She is 79 years old. A fall that hard is terrible. It knocked her unconscious. It is a blessing. She did not break any bones tore lots of skin off, face her knees and shins. Again, nice to see you posting again.

When fully ripe, they are orange. They resemble cherry-sized oranges. However, when ripe, the peels are much thinner, than orange peels, and the fruits can be eaten skin and all. They began ripening one at a time, but more are ripening together, now. Although Meiwas are sweet, there is another kumquat variety, called, Nagami, that is more sour. Recently, I heard that cold temps reached Miami, Florida. Funny seeing that such a place had folk protecting their fruit trees, like northerners, in places, like Orlando. Believe it or not, alot of folks, even there, grow fruit trees in containers, that can be moved indoors, or placed, temporarily, in greenhouses. Some tropical fruit trees, when grown in the ground, get so big, and produce so much fruit, at one time, that, if not sold, or given away, that it often goes to waste. Containerized tropical fruit trees, or in-ground ones, that are kept lower, by pruning, are not only easier to harvest, but easier to protect, should there be a once in a decade, cold snap or two. South Florida had frozen iguanas falling from trees, like rain. They become paralyzed, when temps drop below 45, but wake up, when temps warm up (if the cold lasts 10 hrs or less, below 45). I heard the "cold", extended into the Caribbean, where Jamaica saw lows, below 60 degrees (frigid, for them, LOL). Clivias can be finicky, sometimes. I have 4 of them. One has never flowered, even though I had it for over 15 yrs. It is supposed to be one of the rarer Clivia colors, like white or apricot. It grows much slower, than my orange and yellow Clivias, and although it has made progress, still is not "tight", in its 8 inch pot. Clivias like to be more pot-bound, than not. Fertilizing, as you are thinking about doing for your non-blooming Clivia, might help, although I generally feed all my Clivias, once a year, with a granular, timed-release fertilizer, like Osmocote. Believe it or not, I have rooted a cutting from my big yellow Clivia, that flowered after just a year, or two, afterward. A piece fell off, with a portion of stem attached. I forgot how it broke off (tree limb fell on it?). Clivia pieces will root kinda in the same way, that a cactus will, in a sandy mix. The green fruit are lemons. I have the tea olive in an upstairs bedroom. It sure does perfume the room. Sometimes, it and the citrus will bloom, at the same time, creating a "medley of scents". Tea olive seems to bloom on new wood. If the plant is kept compact, bloom is more dense. Last year was dry here, as well. However, we are above normal in snowfall, this winter. Still though, weather guys still say we are below normal, precip-wise, but above normally in snow. Snow and rain are just two different forms of precip, to me, lol. Sorry to hear that the missus, has been having equilibrium issues. At one time, they used to attribute that to just getting older. Nowadays, though, physical therapy methods have helped alot of seniors improve their equilibrium, and reduce the tendency to get off-balance. It involves certain exercises, like "relearning' how to stand on one foot, or even exercises to strengthen the hip muscles. Hopefully, she won't be on a walker permanently.

I just burned off a big pampas and gave it some 10 10 10 and it will shine. Took off my palm bonnets and gave them some Epsom salts. Spears are sturdy and firm. If nothing doesn't change, I've escaped another winter. Hope Ms Dorothy's Butia is OK.
