Last month, I posted before and after pics, that showed how the Orioles were attacking their feeder, requiring refills, every few days. However, this week, the feeder appears untouched. They usually leave the area, in early July. I'll continue to keep the feeder out, until then. I treated the developing flower buds on my Annabelle Hydrangeas, with a gibberellic acid spray. I used to see Dog Hoble near streams in Kenatucky. IT is nice. the weiglea is nice red color. Whaat fern>. is it Christmas Ferm??? I have never eaten a Logan very. IT is kind of a northern berry>?? Nice little Cotoneaster. Does the new Scotch broom have yellow berries?

They are another plant that was once rated z7 and up, but found to be hardy in z6. They are slightly less hardy, than blackberries.

My plant doesn't bloom as heavily, in its dappled shade spot. In years past, it used to cover itself, in blooms, all along its stems. Sounds like a good place for Dog Hobble, to grow near streams, even it does well, in somewhat drier spots. In fact, it got its name, from the way it would hamper dogs, back in the days, when people used dogs to hunt with, for birds, and game. Actually, the Loganberry was developed, by crossing a red Raspberry, with a blackberry,, and I think,, a Dewberry (a 3 way hybrid), out in California, by a guy, whose last name was Logan. The plant was not always considered as hardy for the North, as say raspberries, and blackberries. Loganberry canes are thornless, too, which helps alot. I forgot the type of evergreen fern, this one is, but I know it came from Plant Delights, some years ago. When I go out, in my backyard, I look to see if the white tag is still stuck in the ground, nearby.

Scotch Broom Posted by Alvin, z6 on June 14, 2025, 2:29 pm, in reply to "Re: In My Garden Today" Scotch Broom is in the group of plants that are related to beans and peas, that also includes plants like Caesalpinia, honey locust, and Mimosa. They produce their seeds in pods.

Fred..the evergreen fern is.. Posted by Alvin, z6 on June 14, 2025, 9:23 pm, in reply to "Re: In My Garden Today" Japanese HOLLY FERN, Cyrtomium fortunei. I went out in the yard. The plastic tag that was in the fern, when it shipped, some years ago, is still sticking in the ground, and readable.
