pics Posted by Mark z7 Sharptown, MD on June 1, 2025, 12:23 pm The first pic is of my catalpa tree in full bloom. This was about 10 days ago and all the blooms are gone now. One of my new hostas I got while visiting my sister in Bel Air, Md. Red and orange gerber daisys I purchased. By the stoop are 2 New Guinea impatians. jpg to url converter A couple of canna plants and the other hosta. My yucca rostrata is going to flower this year. I have read conflicting reports that it will either die after flowering or it will develop a second head. jpeg to url

I'm not good growing Gerbers or Ice Plants, not sure why I've never had long term luck. Could be my lowest z7a (o*) in the world Hope your Cannas and New Guineas get going for you. We have been warm since March and looks like a jungle here but the rain has been too much. Some bananas are over 6' and how I dont know. Thanks for posting about your Giant Rostrata, the forum has never seen one so tall and beautiful as yours. while it wont die, it will have 2 heads and I use to think no no no but it will still be beautiful. Mine has about 7 feet of trunk and was thinking yesterday it's just a matter of time before the moths get it to branch. I've thought about netting the crown or using some type of repellent on it's crown but evidently no one does this. If my tests are favorable Tuesday, I will post some photos by the weekend. They were poplar at the beginning of the last century. We called them cigar trees , as a kid. We actually smoked the seed pods. Your yucca rostrata is a great size! My wife doesn’t like Yucca, but they are one of my favorites. Beautiful new Hosta. Nice Gerbera Daisies. I do like the darker leaved Canna.

I hope the rostrata survives. I have had several people tell me it is a landmark for the area. I hope all your tests are favorable and you bounce back soon bud!

I may get second year growth but no flowers then they die off. May be my soil is not conducive to their liking. The catalpa was here when I moved in in '95. I wonder if the rostrata will have viable seeds this fall but I doubt it. Happy growing to you.
