In My Garden Today

Here is a pic of a northern pecan tree I planted, last summer. They are relatively late budders, in the north, but can endure z6 minimums, even though considered a southern nut type. The variety is 'Surecrop', and it is a Type 2 pollination selection:
What is the predominant color you see, in the pic below? "Non-zone 6 hardy" Lady Banks, eat your heart out, LOL! Meet the Japanese Marigold Bush AKA Japanese Rose, Kerria japonica 'Pleniflora'. Actually, like many other plants, this plant IS also related to roses. However, it is thornless. Unlike Lady Banks, this plant doesn't bloom, just once, in early season. It blooms sporadically, all season long...
A few days ago, I posted only ONE of my two Magnolia species, in bloom. This is my FOURTH species of Magnolia, to bloom, this season. This Magnolia has the cultivar name of, 'Sunspire'. Its blooms have a butter yellow color, which contrasts nicely with the Japanese Marigold Bush, in the background, and the currently red, Drummondi Norway Maple in my next door neighbor's front yard:
The JAPANESE CHLORANTHUS, Chloranthus japonicus, is BLOOMING ! This spring-bloomer has bottlebrush-like, or Fothergilla-like blooms, on an herbaceous, low-growing perennial plant..
Here is a pic of a Waggy (can anyone guess what plant I'm speaking of, by using a nickname?)I got from Plant Delights Nursery, two or 3 yrs ago, in a 3 inch pot. It is currently in a 2 gallon, and will be ready for a 3 gallon, this season..
Lady banks starting get her panties in a wad for sure, lol.

Is the Evergreen maybe Cape Jasmine type? Nice little Trachycarpus wagnerianus! PDN has exorbitant prices now! Beautiful little bloom on the Cloranthus! I do like gooseberries right off the vine. Some Daffodils and Tulips still blooming is amazing! The intense yellow of the Kerria and double bloom has lady banks panties in a was , lol. I wish I had that Cherry tree!
Re: Lady banks starting get her panties in a wad for sure, lol.
Thanks, Fred. Correctomundo, Fred! 'Chuck Hayes' is a Cape Jasmine or Gardenia cultivar. I was surprised, because Gardenias are notoriously hard to keep very long, indoors. They like it cool, in winter, which was easy, in my basement. I was careful with watering, too, and did not let water touch their leaves. They are very easy to pick up fungal infections, and die from too much water. Also, a "Waggy" is a nickname for Trachycarpus wagnerianus.
I agree that PDN prices are high. I will buy plants from them, that I can't find anywhere else, or for less (albeit a larger plant for the price) though.
Tulips will go on for about another 10 days, here, unless it gets hot.
I wish I could reach the fruit, on that cherry tree, as well as beat the birds to them, LOL. Birds tend to begin eating cherries, just as they start to ripen, but not ripe enough to pick and eat. I would have to invest in a nice, tall stepladder. The fruit trees I planted over the past few years, are all dwarfs. I intend to keep them smaller, too, with pruning, making the trees easier to throw a small bird/critter netting over them, as fruits develop, as well as pick from the ground.
Both currants and gooseberries can be eaten raw, but they are sour. Some people like eating lemons raw, though, so some people do like eating sour fruit.
Re: Lady banks starting get her panties in a wad for sure, lol.
Yep, Mark, a number of animals will eat fruit from trees. Even opposums and raccoons (common in my yard) will climb trees. Not enough "natural" food for them, I guess. They make a bee-line to my yard.
