In My Garden Today
Posted by Alvin in Motown, z6 on December 25, 2024, 3:00 pm
Here are some plants that are blooming at this festive time of year. Between the two pics, there are 4 colors represented. They are Christmas cacti, Zygocactus schlumbergera. Christmas cacti like to be kept on the dry side, most of the year. During flower bud set and flowering, however, they appreciate a little more water. These are another group of plants that don't need to be purchased every year, and can be brought into bloom, year after year...
Last week, I posted a pic of another plant of this type, I recently got. The previous is a much larger 3 gallon size. This is another yellow sapote or CANISTEL, Pouteria campechiana. They are also called Egg Fruits, because the flesh inside the fruits can have the consistency of boiled egg yolks, but the flavor is on the sweet side. The plant on the left, got "lost in the mail", and although it eventually arrived, it was dead, upon arrival. The replaced plant on the right is much healthier....

Alvin. replacement plant is beautiful and tropical.i have a few Christmas cacti blooming, red and one yellowish one. I have an orchid getting ready to bloom. This is first time with a repeat bloom.
Thanks, Fred. I have no clue why it took one of the two Canistels over TWO WEEKS to get to me. I contacted the Etsy vendor, after 9 days past, and he sent the replacement, which arrived in 4 or 5 days. Cool you have an orchid. Is it a moth orchid, or Phalaenopsis?
