Quick frost/freeze approaching on these blooms Posted by Rob N TN on November 19, 2024, 5:45 pm A quick frost or freeze could be possible here Thursday night. Long overdue anyway. Temps rebound some. Currently in bloom here are, Roses, Musa, Clematis, Texas Esperanza, Cosmos, Vinca, Impatiens, Hydrangea, Marigold, Mums, Asters, Flowering Cabbage and Kale and unfortunately Carolina Jessamine (native) is beginning to bloom. Mowed the yard yesterday and hopefully not again until spring and I cut down dozens of Musa Basjoo. I left a few dozen standing because not seeing anything under 32* and they are normally hardy to 28* for 3-4 hours (experimenting) I'd like to keep them in control in 2025. Hope everyone has most of their yard work out of the way. I'm such a procrastinator and don't understand the term, timely manner. Have a great week friends.

This has been a long growing season here like at your place. I quit watering weeks ago or more would still be blooming. No killing frost or freeze in next 10days predicted but heavy frost maybe this Friday and Saturday, but no freeze yet. I haven’t cut down the Bananas . I did rip out some tomatoes still with green tomatoes which I fried, yummy! The greenhouse is ready to go. As soon as leaves all fall I will hire someone to blow out gutters. We planted some pansies for winter bloom in a large pot beside front steps .s as on time to decorate for Christmas.

Hope you don't see any freezes this year Fred. I still have chilis producing and I have one tomato plant partially under a porch eave loaded with green tomatoes. yum - soon. . I never plant pansies but I will flowering cabbage and Kale. I do have some Christmas lights up but not on yet. I love Thanksgiving Thanks Friend.

They have dwarf ones now. Dorothy loves them. I may go today and look for some on my way home from the gym, I am still exercising 3 times a week for heart health. I feel good with everything except my memory , it seems to be deteriorating .I am kinda excited to decorate outside for Christmas. I mostly decorate porch rails. I put a tree in screened back porch. I do have a vintage Santa and a snowman that are those from 60’s that I put out and light up- yard sale finds. I always wanted those as a kid. Now I have them, lol. I mostly don’t climb on ladders anymore. I hope you have best Thanksgiving and Christmas ever. We bought a small spiral ham snd go from there , lol.

I haven't had any frost since the roof top one a while back. I got everything finished up when that threat hit here. My banana leaves will blacken with a freeze or frost but continue to grow until a below 28F event hits. Best of luck to ya in getting everything prepared for winter. Enjoy the holidays.

I barely escaped that roof-top frost you mentioned and I will have some wind chills this week from 29*f Thanks for the information on how Musa will blacken out at those temps. I normally cut them down prior to that type of weather but this growing season just kept lingering on. It was suppose to be sunny today but its cloudy and rainy (I cant go by TV weather since I'm so far away from Nash and Knox) and today I was going to string minis, mulch and tie up the fronds on my two biggest palms but will wait tomorrow. Mark Do you think using ZIP TIES would hurt frond petioles as I tie them up for winter? Ive never used them before. Mark if you travel out for Thanksgiving, be safe and Happy Holidays my friend

I asked Mark about this but will take as much info as I can get. They are so easy but I know they shouldn't be real tight if used (I would think) Have you ever used them? I've heard its a NO NO. I'd say your right AJ, the talk of this front is wind chills. I think I might see an actual 32* low here. No snow or precip. Thanks,

Dorothy has a good eye on these old time favorites. Hope you find some. Glad your still doing your heart rehab, proud of you. Do plenty of puzzle mags, they help a lot. I never was one for Christmas unless its the Nativity and religiously celebrated but I do love those old blow molded Christmas characters. You were lucky to find them. I don't do ladders either, I'm not real steadfast anymore.. Fred, I was just thinking today of getting a spiral ham, I love them. Love the glaze too and a real sweet potato casserolle with lots of pecans. Fred, wishing you and Dorothy and the kids an old time Thanksgiving and the joy of Christmas all year long. I'm going to use them. Thanks friend. If I can stay between z6b-z7 for lows, I think everything will be good. You are a solid z7 and I hang around (officially) at a plus 1* in z7 but all zones have spikes some years. I hope you have no trouble at all with winter.
