In My Garden Today

The TREE HYDRANGEA, Hydrangea paniculata 'Strawberry Sundae', is blooming, among sweet peas. This cultivar's bloom's are supposed to change from white to red. We'll see..
Earlier in the summer, I posted that my 'Silas Woods' SAPODILLA was blooming. Sapodilla is a tropical fruit, reputed to taste like ripe pears, sprinkled with cinnamon. Well now, there are several little baby fruits forming. Oddly, since this plant fruits on new growth, additional flower buds are forming, on new growth. I don't think these additional flowers will set fruit, but I'll see..
The TIGER FLOWER, Tigridia pavonia, is blooming! Like daylilies, these blooms last just for a day. I had to "run and take a pic", while it was open. Funny how SPOTTED flowers, get named after tigers, instead of leopards, or cheetahs...
The FIELD THISTLE, Cirscium discolor, is blooming in my garden. This "weed" has beautiful purple blooms, even though the leaves are spiny. I let one or two plants stay in my garden, just for the blooms. Believe it or not, this plant is closely related to the edible artichoke plant...

Alvin, the climbing ZhHydrangea is a keeper. My daughter has a rambling one on an arch in her side garden. Sapodilla in Michigan, who knew! Tiger Flower is nice. Nice gardenia. The variegated Canna eat if outstanding! I have eaten the little thistle hearts once. The hardy Hibiscus is nice.

Thanks, Fred. The Hydrangea is not the climbing form, although sweet pea vines have grown through it. The climbing form can actually grow on a building, and has "holdfasts", on its stems, like ivy. Unlike Wisteria, though, it doesn't twine around objects. The Tiger Flower came from PDN, last year, although it is blooming for the first time, this year. You nabbed both the Gardenia and Canna, correctly. The Canna variety is Stuttgart. It does have similar variation to its banana relative, AeAe. I also got the Blackberry Merlot Hibiscus, last year, but is blooming for the first time, this year.

Alvin, had Stuttgart but I dug it out snd gave it away. Mine was certainly not as starkly variegated as yours, not as white or green. Yours is beautiful.
