Another of my FLOWERING MAPLES, Abutilon hybridus, is blooming. After looking at it, you'll probably see why the cultivar is named, 'Little Sunshine'. This plant came from Logee's, two years ago...
Anybody else growing tropical fruits, in a temperate zone? Below is a pic of a new PAPAYA plant I got. The cultivar is 'TR Hovey'. This variety stays shorter than other papayas, but yet produces full-size fruit. Usually, produces its first fruits, within a year...
Here is a pic of a MANGO TREE, Magifera indica. This cultivar, dubbed 'Carrie', belongs to a group of mangoes, described as, "condo mangoes", because they grow to be smaller trees, and/or are easier to keep no taller than 6-7 ft tall, YET produce full size fruit. Byron Martin, of Logees, has an online video of a mango they are growing, at their greenhouse, that had two very large mangoes, on a small, but POTTED tree. The condo variety they recommend, though, is 'Pickering'...
Here is a BOUGAINVILLEA plant, I got, from an Etsy vender. Supposed to have 4 major Bougainvillea colors (red, white, pink, and orange), growing in the same pot. Although on of the cutting-grown plant seems ready to bloom, I'll see if there are any other colors. I bumped them up to a slightly bigger pot...

I love the yellow Abutilon! I had a red one at my old place. They do well here. The smss as ll Mango firm and papaya are nice. I like the Yellow Clivia, but I prefer the orange. I wish my orange one d weed kuldip bloom. The oleander is nice. Here is a pic of my oleander in Greer. I had a hardy white one but could not find a picture.
I'd bet that Abutilon in red, is beautiful. Ornge seems to be the most common color, like my other plant. Are they die-backs, there, or does the wood remain intact? I can imagine that they'd get tall, or at least, spread, if the wood stayed alive, over the winter.
You could try rooting a piece off yout non-blooming Clivia, to see if it bloomed faster than the momma plant.
Would you happen to know if your former plant is still alive? I see they can take up a bit of space. Tony in Dallas had a couple that were as tall as his house. I think they died, a few years ago, when they had a week straight of near zero temps.
Alvin, I do not know if the Abutilon remained intact through The vortex winters. Moved the winter of the vortex. The abutilon had been in my yard for several years and it did not die back in the winter so if it died back during the vortex, I don’t know. I just don’t know about the Clovia up until I got the fungal infections. It had bloomed every year for years and years and years, and it was root bound, which they like, but since I cut it all back down to the bulbs, and did the fungus never bloom. The foliage is very Very healthy, but no bloom. Looks like you and I are about the only ones monitoring this board right now. I guess it’s such a summertime everybody’s out doing summertime things I guess. I haven’t done much this summer. I did put up a new screen door on my screened in porch yesterday.. I stained it last week and then I put it up yesterday and finished it this morning. I had to go get a new spring a stronger spring to thought it would really close better but it looks good and I’m happy. I’m just glad that I’m back I can do a few things outside now.
Hopefully, Fred, everyone's gardens haven't dried up from drought conditions, as some have expressed they were having. I guess, it's either too dry, or too wet. Climate is changing. Early forecasts has the upcoming fall, as milder than normal, for much of the country.
